Chicago birthdays

Shane and I both celebrated our birthdays this year in Chicago. He overheard me telling friends about a surprise I had planned for his birthday. After looking up the NBA schedule, he figured it out – the perfect present, tickets to the Bulls semi-final, on his birthday! Only problem with the surprise was… I hadn’t bought NBA tickets. Epic Wifey fail…

We spent the night with our lovelies, A&J, at the Longman & Eagle, a sweet little six room hotel in a Chicago neighbourhood, which I happened to think was a really nice and thoughtful birthday surprise for my better half.

That’s my sexy 31 year old there. And that’s a really comfy bed behind him.

We stay in room #04. I love open plan bedrooms, especially with hanging plants and big showers.

The mini bar rocked. It was a fun mix of whiskey, local chocolate, and moustache gel, among other trendy bits and pieces. Naturally, Shane treated himself to the moustache gel. It actually makes his mo look amazing, in my humble opinion.

The room comes with an old cassette player and some mix tapes. They were actually the best thing. Nothing beats the crackle of cassette.

We could have stayed in the room all night, but the Free Drinks lured us downstairs and we ate one of the first of many amazing meals in the US with amazing friends.

If you’re out Chicago way and keen to get away from the highrises definitely stop in at L&E. Not every night you get to walk upstairs from an organic, farm-to-table, cocktail-filled evening of goodness to fall into a comfy bed with a mix-tape lulling you to sleep.
